Baoshan Iron & Steel rolls first bar on KOCKS RSB® 370++/4

The Chinese special steel producer Baoshan Iron & Steel Co. Ltd. has successfully rolled the first bar on its Reducing & Sizing Block RSB® 370++/4, integrated as centerpiece of a greenfield project. This is the third block that Baoshan and KOCKS have taken into operation together. With the most recent project progressing as planned, the subsidiary of China Baowu Steel Group now again paves the way for reliable production of top-notch SBQ products in the new rolling mill.

The project was initiated in line with Baoshan’s plans to relocate its Shanghai production facility and replace an existing KOCKS block from 2003. In the greenfield mill with an annual capacity of 620,000 tons, the new 3-roll RSB® is operating as finishing block for straight bars, following 20 stands in H/V arrangement. It was selected for its proven ability to achieve the highest dimensional precision and reliable rolling performance.

The KOCKS rolled® product range includes straight bars with finished sizes from Ø 20.00 to 100.00 mm, meeting the requirements of demanding processing industries. For flexible operation at the optimum parameters, the RSB® 370++/4 is equipped with the remote control for automatic stand and guide adjustments from the pulpit. In the roll shop the BAMICON Octopus software and hardware guides all setup processes, while synchronizing the roll shop processes and production plans.

The successfully rolled first bar is the final outcome of close cooperation throughout all earlier project phases. Commenting on this milestone, a customer representative at Baoshan Iron & Steel said: “Having the very first bar already rolled within the specified tolerances is an important result for our teams and a strong basis for the ramp-up.” Following this achievement, the focus is now on establishing stable production and continuing on-site training. This targeted support will help maximize performance, availability and the value of the investment.
