MaSteel decides for the 4D EAGLE S laser gauge
Maanshan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. (MaSteel), one of China’s leading special steel producers, has ordered a 4D EAGLE S laser gauge from KOCKS. This investment underlines MaSteel’s commitment to enhancing its rolling operations further. Using advanced laser technology, the renowned SBQ producer will upgrade its mill line to reliably serve demanding industry sectors with highest-quality products.
With the investment, MaSteel is further advancing its rolling mill capabilities. The 4D EAGLE S will monitor rolled bars in a dimensional range from Ø 15 – 100 mm. Designed for precise in-line quality assurance, the laser system provides accurate, real-time data on profile and surface, supporting transparent rolling processes across the product mix and data-based decision-making. In combination with the KOCKS Size Control System (SCS), the 4D EAGLE S supports closed-loop approaches in rolling for continuous quality assurance and process optimization. An existing 4D EAGLE predecessor system will be replaced in this course.
A key motivation for this project was the wish to integrate advanced defect classification using the 4D EAGLE S laser light sectioning technology – combined with the system’s precise profile measurement capabilities. This hybrid functionality provides enhanced process insights via the SMARTCORE X interface, allowing for supervised rolling operations.
The order marks another important step in the collaboration between MaSteel and KOCKS. Commissioning is planned for the first half of 2027 and will include supervision, training, and consultation with experts from KOCKS MEASURE + INSPECT.
