Turkish steel producer Kardemir rolls first bar on KOCKS RSB®
Turkish special steel producer Kardemir Karabük Demir Çelik Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. has successfully rolled the first bar on its new KOCKS Reducing & Sizing Block RSB® 370++/4 in the 5.0 design. Now, the way is paved for the highest levels of reliability and product quality in the rolling of Special Bar Quality (SBQ) long products.
Integrated into Kardemir’s 700,000 t/a SBQ mill, which was commissioned in 2018, the new KOCKS 3 roll block enables a broad SBQ product range. The Turkish steel producer can now reliably roll straight bar products from Ø20 to 105 mm, bar in coil products from Ø20 to 56 mm and hexagonal bars from Ø20 to 75 mm. All products are produced with highest dimensional accuracy and reliable performance. “The start-up of the KOCKS RSB® is an important step in further strengthening our position in demanding SBQ markets,” says a Kardemir representative.
The RSB® comes with carefully selected process solutions. The BAMICON Octopus workflow-oriented solution guides all setup processes in the roll shop, helping to ensure consistent, reproducible results. The 4D EAGLE S measuring system enables in-line quality assurance and, seamlessly integrated with the RSB® and higher-level systems, provides precise, real-time dimensional data. Together with remote control for automatic stand and guide adjustments, it supports closed-loop mechanisms with the Size Control System from KOCKS.
With the project progressing as planned, Kardemir can now supply KOCKS rolled® value-added products to demanding processing industries, including the automotive, railway, machinery and construction sectors. The successful rolling of the first bar marks the start of a new phase, where experts will be on-site to provide in-depth training and advisory services as part of the KOCKS lifecycle services, supporting Kardemir in maximizing the performance and availability of the new RSB® installation.
