Two KOCKS blocks for maximum flexibility and precision in GMH Group’s rolling mill.

At its Georgsmarienhütte site, the GMH Gruppe has commissioned a state-of-the-art Reducing & Sizing Block (RSB®) from KOCKS. By investing in this advanced technology, the renowned German steel producer is strengthening its commitment to product diversity, quality, and delivery performance. The new RSB® 445++/4 is designed for deployment in two independent rolling lines. With this mobile rolling block, the rolling mill in Georgsmarienhütte now operates the largest and most advanced KOCKS block in Europe, further enhancing the site’s flexibility and precision in rolling processes.

Since 1986, the GMH Gruppe and KOCKS have been working together successfully to develop high-performance technology for use in the special steel rolling mill. The newly commissioned RSB® 445++ was jointly developed to produce bar steel with outstanding dimensional tolerances, surface quality, and overall product excellence – while maximizing operational flexibility. To achieve the greatest possible freedom in production planning, the mobile RSB® 445++/4 can automatically move between the two rolling lines at the site. It operates in tandem with the downstream RSB® 370++/6 as required. “Our new rolling mill delivers exactly what our customers need: flexibility, precision, and reliability,” explains Marc-Oliver Arnold, Plant Director at Georgsmarienhütte GmbH.

While the RSB® 370++ has been in operation since 2001, the RSB® 445++ was co-engineered completely from scratch, including the extensive infrastructure required for its installation. The new RSB® features an advanced package comprising a remote control, state-of-the-art equipment for the roll shop, and the cutting-edge BAMICON Octopus software and automation solution. The latest generation of the 4D EAGLE S measuring gauge from KOCKS and LAP enables in-process quality assurance.
